Child Disability Case – Gunshot Wound

by | Feb 22, 2023 | SSA Case Study Examples of Hearings and Outcomes

A 14-year-old child was involved in a random gun shooting in August 2020 which resulted in a gunshot wound to his right posterior chest and sustaining injuries to his liver and his right kidney (with residual bullet shrapnel in the 10th rib).

There were several surgical procedures which caused additional complications requiring the child to have a chest tube inserted. After he recuperated from surgery the child began suffering from: bladder issues, weight loss, depression, insomnia, and PTSD. At the hearing the mother testified on her son’s behalf and indicated there was a long road to recovery before she started seeing some slight improvement in her son.

Today the child is quiet, nervous, and anxious around people. He was out of school for almost 1 year and has a hard time catching up with his peers. He is now bringing home C and D grades, whereas before he was an A and B student. The mom stated that this incident changed his life as a kid forever.

We are hopefully this Administrative Law Judge grants the benefits to this younger individual so that he can continue to receive the therapy and help necessary for his continued improvement.
